Equine Dental Providers of America

John Causey Award

John Causey was a very giving man. Early in his career he took the educational path. He was the very first to test and become a Certified Equine Dental technician with the IAEDt. He went on and was Certified thru the World Wide Dental Association and also with the Equine Dental Providers of America.

John was a presenter for Ralston Purina at Equitana, Equine Affair and many other Industry related Conventions on the importance of Equine Dentistry. He was an examiner for certification for the IAEDt.

John Worked with over 40 Veterinarians as their dental provider. John believed in the welfare of the horse and that is how he lived his life.

Dr. Richard Miller remembers "John as an organizer before there were organizations. An educator when there was precious little education available. A politician that disliked politics but used his skills to unite a very diverse group that had one thread of common interest – equine dentistry. A visionary who saw the day that veterinarians would finally embrace dentistry and in so doing, take away much of his livelihood, but still gave freely of his knowledge to educate them. A humble man who eschewed honors and titles, in favor of supporting conferences and workshops that may well have featured presenters of lesser knowledge. And last but not least, a story teller, poet and entertainer that could keep a group laughing for hours."

Gail Emerson recalls her sentiments for John Causey:   "John was a great friend and very devoted equine dental provider/practionioner.  He helped so many horses with his expertise and so many people with his generosity to help.  I remember my first meeting with him, and he always shared his knowlodge with associations from the beginning in the late 1980's.  We became good friends, and I spent time in Ocala area with him early on in our association times. As will have it, John left us with many good thoughts about his generosity to share, educate his clients and compadreas, and was very helpful in education,at conferences , wet-labs, etc. and cared so much-we will all miss his friendship and expertise."
